Chairperson of the Board, Director - David Watkinson
David Watkinson is a mining engineer by education and is currently President and CEO of Emgold Mining Corporation, a public mining company listed on the Toronto Venture Stock Exchange in Canada and OTCQB in the U.S. He has over 30 years of professional engineering experience in underground and open pit mine development, including mine permitting, engineering, feasibility, construction, and operations. In addition, he has extensive experience in project management, having taken projects from grass roots start-up to successful operating status. Mr. Watkinson has been responsible for management of large capital projects and operations in Canada, the United States, and the Philippines. He has held progressively senior positions with various companies including Placer Dome Inc., Kinross Gold Corporation, Thyssen Mining Construction and Vulcan Materials Company. Mr. Watkinson holds a B.Sc. in Applied Science, Mining Engineering, from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario (1985) and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. He resides in Placer County, California.
Vice Chairperson of the Board, Director - Patricia Nelson
Patricia Nelson has over 10 years of experience as a Registered Environmental Property Assessor serving private industry and utility clients. A team oriented leader, she has successfully planned, directed and performed environmental assessments, prepared permit applications and compliance reports for complex natural resource development and restoration projects. She has designed and delivered community outreach programs for projects resulting in cost and schedule efficiencies for clients.
Ms. Nelson's regulatory expertise includes: California Environmental Quality Act, (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), California Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), federal Clean Water Act (CWA), Porter Cologne Act, State and federal Endangered Species Act (ESA), California Fish and Game Code, hydroelectric relicensing in accordance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Director - Brandon Stauffer
Born in Modesto in 1968, Brandon Stauffer grew up in California. He completed an AA degree at Yuba College in 1988 and a pursued a BS degree in Civil Engineering at Chico State. He worked at Caltrans a a rotating junior civil technician for 7 years while in school. Mr. Stauffer started a full time job at Baldwin Contracting Company (now Knife River Corporation, a subsidiary of MDU Construction Resources Group Inc.) in 1994, working up through the ranks to become a surface sand and gravel Plant Manager. In 2001, he began working at A. Teichert and Son Inc. (now Teichert Materials) as a Plant Manager, overseeing mining operations and processing facilities, leading teams of Operating Engineers, and working with company administrative resources to bring business units to operating excellence in line with company values. This includes advancing a safe production culture while sustaining an atmosphere of continuous improvement and developing a team of highly engaged people. From 2012 to date, Mr. Stauffer oversees regional operations including portable plants that work across the state of California. He currently lives in Nevada City, CA with his wife and dogs. Together, he and his wife have raised 5 children, love mining history, the gold rush, camping, and exploring. He has the love of history, science, the universe, and our place in the universe.
Director - Joseph Cochran
Joseph Cochrane is CEO and founder of SMART Light Systems LLC, a company that manufactures lighting control products to reduce energy consumption. SMART Light Systems LLC also does inspections of new buildings to ensure companies are compliant with California Title 24 Energy Efficiency Code (similar to a building inspections). Joseph has a BS in Engineering, Engineering Technology Mechanical Engineering, from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. Mr. Cochran has been an Engineering Manager for several research and development companies involved in recycling technologies including pilot plant and operating plant design and construction.
Co-Director - David Lawler
David Lawler has more than 35 years of professional experience as an economic geologist, including thirteen years as chief geologist and scientist with Lawler Associates Geoscience., a consulting firm specializing in mineral and energy resource exploration and exploration research. Clients have included major and junior mining companies, private investment groups and legal firms. He has a Masters of Science (MS) in Geology/Earth Sciences from University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Lawler was a key field investigator and co-authored a number of mercury related studies done in the Cosumnes, American, Bear, And Yuba (CABY) watershed with Dr. Charles Alpers (USGS) and others. He is a member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists.
